I dug myself a grave and crawled inside –
To Die – Or so I thought –
then I changed my mind but found I couldn’t
climb out of this tomb I wrought.
The musky scent of damp earth
Stung my nostrils raw.
I cried out – but sputtered sand and dirt –
And half-heartedly, at the muddy walls I clawed.
I heard the flames down below –
Crackling at the pit –
Welcoming those who deserve to burn,
Whose lives have turned to shit.
With fear my brittle body shook
yet for you I’d manage a little smile;
With wry amusement I’d say to you –
"I’ve been here for quite a while."
